From May 31 through June 7, a team of 11 will be in Yaguate, Dominican Republic, a small rural town where the people are warm and loving, but have few of the material blessings we enjoy. The team will focus on continuing the construction of a new church building that last year’s team helped to begin. Their former building was torn down to make room for a new highway, so they have been literally worshiping in the streets ever since. The team also plans to visit the local sugar cane farm camps called “the bateys”, where they will share Christ’s love through worship, song and the distribution of rice and supplies. These camps are home to the poorest of the poor, and the needs of the people are many.
The DR team is very thankful to everyone who contributed needed items to take with them to share, including Orioles tee-shirts for the men at the work site donated by Calvary’s United Methodist Men and special items for the ladies donated by the Body & Spirit Fitness group. The team is also grateful to Ben Barry and On The Town Limousines, Inc., for providing the team transportation to & from the airport and to Pat Bostic for transporting our luggage! Thanks to everyone who provided financial support! Without your help, this journey simply could not happen.
The DR team will send e-mail updates throughout the week when possible (if
the electricity is on!). If you didn’t get a chance to get on the list, please contact
the Church Office and we’ll forward them to you. Also, please pick up the DR
Team’s list of specific prayer needs and concerns in the Narthex and pray daily
for the team during the trip and when they journey home. They need to be
undergirded with your prayers! Team members are Clydia & Ed Koch (team
leaders), Jessica & Terri King, Pat Murphy, Martha Lamborn, Debra, Jeff &
Michelle Taylor, and James & Jon Freeman. The team plans to share their
experiences with everyone soon after their return, so stay tuned for more details!
